August 2025   SCREEN Holdings Co., Ltd.

In August, volunteers from the SCREEN Group held a hands-on program to share the technology behind color photo printing as a part of Shiga Prefecture’s summer initiative for children. Seven sessions were held for a total of 340 lower-grade elementary school students in after-school clubs in Hikone (Takamiya), Omihachiman, Higashiomi (Yokaichi), and Moriyama.
The program was designed to make learning about printing technology both enjoyable and engaging. Working in small groups, students used magnifying glasses to explore printed images and discover how tiny CMYK halftone dots* come together to form pictures. They then tried a puzzle activity using film sheets separated into the CMYK colors, seeing first-hand how layered colors form a complete image. As the children worked together, lively conversations and excited voices filled the room. We hope that learning about the color printing technology used in our everyday lives will spark curiosity and interest in learning.

* Printed materials use grids of halftone dots to express different levels of color density. Larger dots produce darker areas, while smaller dots produce lighter areas.
