The company was established on Oct. 11th, 1943.

Presently, SCREEN Group is developing its operations in the following areas: Semiconductor production equipment business (SPE), Graphic arts equipment business (GA), Display production equipment and coater  business (FT), and PCB-related equipment business (PE). The group has expanded its operations based on its core technologies, namely, surface processing technologies, direct imaging technologies, and image processing technologies.

The company's name, SCREEN, derives from the glass screens that were originally the company's main product. Printed pictures, unlike photographs, are comprised of many extremely small dots. These dot patterns are known as halftones. Halftones used to be created using glass screens engraved finely ruled grid patterns.
The Ishida Kyokuzan Printing Works was the first company to succeed in commercially producing these glass screens in Japan. It established Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd.  in 1943 as a manufacturer of glass screens. The company made further advances with these core technologies and was able to expand further into the graphic arts industry as well as the electronics industry.
And then, aiming for further growth, the company became a holding company, “SCREEN Hodings Co., Ltd.” on October 1, 2014.

On October 1, 2023, the Company implemented the stock split, targeting the shares of common stock owned by all recorded shareholders as of September 30, 2023, in the ratio of 1 share into 2 shares.

We recognize that transitioning to a share price per unit within the ideal range recommended by the Tokyo Stock Exchange (between JPY 50,000 and less than JPY 500,000) would be useful in terms of encouraging market participation by individual investors.

As a result of the stock split, cash dividends for the second quarter-end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024 were paid on a pre-split basis and those for the year-end of the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024 were paid on a post-split basis.

The conversion price of the JPY-denominated Euro Market Zero Coupon Convertible Bonds due 2025 issued by the Company has been adjusted accordingly.
