Screen is working hard to ensure better occupational health and safety at all our sites. Part of this effort involves obtaining OHSAS 18001 certification for our health and safety management systems. The results of our efforts in 2001 (April 2001 to March 2002) are shown below.

• Activities related to OHSAS 18001 certification
In 2001 the occupational health and management systems of the head office, the Kuze site, and the Kumiyama site were certified to OHSAS 18001 standards. Work is already underway aiming for certification in 2003 for the Rakusai, Taga, Yasu, and Hikone sites.

• Management policy
At Screen we believe that the foundation of a good company is its people. By providing safe, healthy, and comfortable working environments, we aim to create the best products and technologies as part of our contribution to local communities and to fulfilling our corporate responsibilities.

1)
The main aim of OHSAS 18001 certification is to strengthen preventative measures against hidden risks such as the potential for emergencies and workplace accidents.
2)
In order to do this, each workplace is carefully examined to identify risks. A risk assessment process is then implemented to determine the seriousness and potentiality of each risk.
3)
To ensure the smooth implementation of the risk assessment process in 2001, risk assessors were trained at Rakusai, Yasu, and Taga sites.
  • The development of a points system to prevent
accidents and emergencies

Implementing a system that enables accidents and emergencies to be rated in points depending on their potential seriousness has allowed us to better understand the occurrences of such incidents in the workplace. Compared to the previous year, 2001 received a rating that showed a 27% reduction in points.
