SCREEN Adds Food Label Model to Its Lineup of Digital Printing Presses

June 28, 2017

Kyoto, Japan - June 28, 2017 - SCREEN Graphic Solutions Co., Ltd. (SCREEN GA) has finalized development of its Truepress Jet L350UV+LM, a new UV inkjet system designed to expand the ability to print labels for food packages. SCREEN GA is currently in the final stage of preparing the system ahead of a commercial release scheduled for the end of September 2017. This system will expand SCREEN GA's target market to food packaging and further strengthen its presence in the overall digital label field.

The continuing diversification of consumer preferences has led to sustained growth in the demand for a wide array of small to medium run work in the food label printing market. Producers have also sought to create label designs on a greater variety of substrates in order to differentiate their packages from those of competitors. In response, printing companies have been increasingly calling for digital label presses that can accommodate a wider range of substrates while maintaining the high safety levels required for food products.

In 2013, SCREEN GA developed its Truepress Jet L350UV inkjet system, a specialized digital label press that delivered industry-leading print speeds of up to 50 meters per minute. The system's outstanding quality, productivity and compatibility with an extensive variety of substrates attracted significant attention, leading to widespread and still growing international adoption.

Seeking to more closely meet industry needs, SCREEN GA has now developed the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM, a high-end model with the ability to print food labels. The new system is equipped with a wealth of functions that make it ideal for handling the labels required for food packages. SCREEN GA anticipates it will allow printing companies to target an increased range of applications with greater quality and productivity than ever before.

The Truepress Jet L350UV+LM brings an unrivalled level of functionality to printing the labels used on the packaging of food products. As well as newly developed low migration (low permeability) inks* that offer enhanced safety, the press includes a nitrogen purge mechanism for accelerating the curing of UV inks. It also delivers print speeds of up to 60 meters per minute and enables the reproduction of a wider color gamut by adding support for orange ink to conventional C, M, Y, K and white inks.

In addition, the system's transfer section can be optionally equipped with a chill roller for cooling thin substrates that are particularly susceptible to the heat generated by its UV lamp. The roller mechanism allows these substrates to be transferred and printed with complete reliability. Labels such as those required for the wrappers used on pet bottles can now be printed with ease. These functions give print companies the ability to handle a wider range of applications from standard to food packaging labels.

The Truepress Jet L350UV+LM will be joined by the equally innovative Truepress Jet L350UV+, another new high-end model developed for standard label applications. The system offers superior productivity, substrate compatibility, color reproduction, operability and other advanced features that provide a significant edge in functionality over conventional models in a wide range of fields. Its ability to maintain both exceptional speed and quality make it ideal for label printing.

SCREEN GA intends to continue its development of systems designed to meet the diverse needs of the label printing industry as well as solutions that add value to an expanding variety of products. The company remains fully committed to the stable, long-term growth of the industry.

* Please note that low migration inks cannot be used for the Truepress Jet L350UV+ while standard inks cannot be used for the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM. The level of migration will also vary depending on factors such as the substrate being used, the item to which the substrate is attached, the character density and the packaging contents.

Note: The Truepress Jet L350UV+LM is scheduled to appear at Print 17 (September 10 to 14, Chicago, USA) and LabelExpo Europe (September 25 to 28, Belgium). Both of the systems will initially be released mainly in Europe and North America, with their launch in the Japanese market planned for fall 2017. Actual product may differ from the photo.
