SCREEN Graphic Solutions Co., Ltd. (SCREEN GA) has finalized the development of the LV02 ink series for the Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI S UV inkjet label printing system. The new series is TPO/EDB-free for improved safety and compliance with EuPIA Exclusion Policy.* SCREEN GA plans to launch the ink worldwide starting at October 30, 2023.

In recent years, the packaging industry, including labels, has been undergoing research and reclassification of various substances of concern from a safety perspective. The packaging industry faces various challenges in terms of sustainability, and printing inks are one of them. UV inks such as photo-initiators and monomers are more in focus than water-based inks amid the rising concern about harmful chemical substances.
EDB, which is often used as a photo-initiator in UV inks, was reclassified as H360 “May damage fertility,” as defined in the European CLP Regulation given its high toxicity. In response, EuPIA has decided to add EDB to its own exclusion list. TPO was also included in the 29th update of the REACH Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) List due to its similar toxicity. It may be reclassified by ECHA and included in the EuPIA Exclusion List in the same manner as EDB.

In response to these trends, SCREEN GA has launched the TPO/EDB-free Truepress ink LV02 series for Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI S, which complies with the EuPIA guidelines reclassified in April 2023. At the same time, lightfastness in yellow ink has been improved for more functionality. From these market demands for safer label printing, it will offer a safe, environmentally friendly ink-set that eliminates substances of concern.
SCREEN GA has a long history of developing inkjet printing technologies that offer both high speed and high quality. It has also worked to promote production line automation and create a range of solutions to resolve specific customer needs. By combining these various aspects, it hopes to open up further new markets and contribute to the continuing growth of the overall printing industry.
