Clearing undergrowth at the SCREEN Forest
February 22, 2026 SCREEN Group
On February 22, eleven SCREEN Group employees volunteered to join a group of about 30 residents from Miyazaki Town, which is part of Kameoka City , Kyoto Prefecture, to clear undergrowth at the SCREEN Forest.
They spent half a day using sickles and saws to remove weeds and cut fallen and unwanted trees. The work was physically demanding but worthwhile, deepening connections between the volunteers and locals as they joined forces and together worked up a sweat.
Commenting on the experience, one volunteer spoke of the sense of accomplishment they felt from working in nature and finishing their tasks. Another mentioned how pleasant it was to listen to the sounds of the waterway and the chirping of birds when taking a break, and how they found it refreshing for both mind and body.
At the same time, through the volunteers’ efforts, we also better understood issues facing forest management in terms of labor, equipment, and supplies. We will apply these insights in our ongoing collaborative initiatives with the local community.
Going forward, we will carry on this volunteer undergrowth-clearing program and work to further increase interest in and understanding of forest conservation among SCREEN Group employees and their families.
Notes:
1. The clearing of forest undergrowth is essential to maintaining a healthy forest environment. By enabling sunlight to penetrate to the forest floor, undergrowth clearing promotes the growth of flowering plants native to that area.
2. As part of our social contribution activities in environmental conservation, the SCREEN Group has joined Kyoto Prefecture’s Kyoto Model Forest Initiative. We are engaged in conservation efforts in the SCREEN Forest, a section of forest located in Miyazaki Town in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture.
