GLV™ (Grating Light Valve™) technology employs production techniques used in semiconductor manufacturing. A GLV™ array consists of thousands of microscopic reflective ribbons placed over a silicon chip. These ribbons can be moved up or down to reflect or diffract an imaging laser targeted at the array, simultaneously turning on and off a high number of optical channels.Dainippon Screen uses its tried-and-true laser control technology to precisely target a high-power laser at the GLV™ array, which makes it possible for the flagship 48000SX and 40000SX models to simultaneously control 1,024 channels of light. This dramatically increases the width of the area that can be imaged with each rotation of the drum and contributes to much higher productivity.
The advanced PlateRite Ultima large-format platesetters can image two plates together on the drum. In other words, these platesetters are perfect for imaging not only large-format plates but also pairs of smaller plates together. Imaging pairs of plates increases productivity, since plates need to be loaded and unloaded fewer times.
The PlateRite Ultima series features an automatic inline punching system that helps enable perfect registration on press. Plates are punched by this automatic inline punching system immediately before being loaded onto the drum. The registration punch holes ensure consistent plate placement on the drum, when used in conjunction with standard registration pins. This helps eliminate imaging variations caused by improper plate placement, and results in superior registration accuracy.When optional press punch blocks are used (up to 10 punch blocks can be mounted and selected according to plate size and press type), the imaged plates can be loaded directly onto the press after output. The use of press punch blocks during plate output eliminates the need for manual punching later on in the workflow, ensures excellent registration accuracy, and creates the foundation for perfect results on press. It also dramatically shortens press make-ready time and improves press operating ratios, for even better overall productivity.
Mounting larger and heavier large-size plates not only taxes the operator but also reduces the effi ciency of the CtP production line, since the use of larger plates increases the risk of damage to plates when cassettes are loaded, and more time is required for loading operations. Automatic plate loading is critical to ensuring dependable CtP operations when using large-size plates. The PlateRite Ultima 48000 and PlateRite Ultima 40000 can be fi tted with the optional SA-L 48000 Skid, SA-L 36000 Skid, or MA-L 40000 automatic plate loaders, all of which feature the PlateRite series’ renowned plate transport technology. These automatic plate loaders make it possible to create a fully automated production line.
With these single-cassette autoloaders, the operator can set an entire skid’s worth of plates of the same size in the autoloader at once.
With this multi-cassette autoloader, the operator can set different size plates in each cassette. The advantage of this autoloader is that there is no need to change cassettes between jobs; the operator can simply specify which cassette to use.
