Total expenditure on environmental conservation in fiscal 2008 was 3.1 billion yen, an equivalent amount to that spent in fiscal 2007.
With the upgrade of the Hikone Plant finished, our capital investment was only one-sixth that of fiscal 2007. These expenses were used to replace boilers and facilities for the reuse of phosphoric acid, the installation of an environmental data system, and other measures contributing to the improvement of environmental conservation.

(4) Economic benefits due to the environmental conservation effect
1) Economic benefits of chemical reductions are compiled by totaling the amount of reduction from the previous fiscal year and converting it into a yen figure for each chemical. Reduction figures are released only for chemicals targeted by the PRTR Law.
2) Economic benefits of waste reduction are compiled by converting the amount of reduction from the previous fiscal year into a disposal cost. Values shown include benefits from waste reduction achieved by turning product packaging materials into valuable resources.
3) Economic benefits of energy consumption reduction are compiled by converting the amount of reduction from the previous fiscal year into a yen figure for each energy source.
