Dainippon Screen Receives ISO9001 Certification for
Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment

Kyoto, April 16, 1997--On March 14, 1997, Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd., (headquarters: Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto; president: Akira Ishida) received ISO9001 certification of its Electronic Equipment Division's Yasu Manufacturing Department from Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQAO) for meeting international standards. JQAO operates under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This certification is the first for the Electronic Equipment Division of Dainippon Screen in the semiconductor manufacturing field.

The ISO9001 certification was granted to the Yasu Manufacturing Department (location: Yasu-cho, Shiga) for the design and production of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, which include Wet Stations (wafer cleaning processors) . The certification represents international recognition of the manufacturing department's quality designing and production processes .

In July 1994, Dainippon Screen established an Environmental Management Department to promote stable product quality and provide guidance on environmental issues. In September 1994, the Company formed a specialized team tasked with earning ISO9000- and ISO14000-series certification for Dainippon Screen. The Yasu Manufacturing Department is the fifth of the Company's departments to receive ISO9000-series certification; the Graphic Arts Division's Hikone Manufacturing Department received ISO9001 certification in January 1996; the Electronic Components Division's CRT Masks Production Department received ISO9002 certification in April 1996; the Graphic Arts Division's Kyoto Manufacturing Department received ISO 9002 certification in December 1996; the Graphic Arts Division's Digital Devices Engineering Department received ISO9001 certification in February 1997.

The entire company remains dedicated to earning certifications for meeting international standards.
