Responsibility to Communities

Basic Policy

Business Activities Core to Our Social Contribution

SCREEN Group toward contributing to industrial development by providing products and services that feature superior environmental and safety performance, and by returning profits to society. Maintaining a core belief in innovation in our business activities, we will continue striving to meet the needs of the global community.

Contributing to industrial development through innovation and returning profits to society are fundamental to SCREEN Group’s efforts to forge relationships of trust with the community. In this manner, we undertake corporate social initiatives in which every employee can participate.

Managing the Impact of Our Businesses on Local Communities

The Group conducts internal assessments of the environmental and social impact of its business activities on local communities. Under our EHS management system, we strive toward the appropriate management of our impact on the environment, employing such means as employee training and facility-related measures.
In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017, we recorded no incidents in which our operations had serious negative environmental or social impacts on local communities. There were also no negative economic effects resulting from the relocation of business sites or changes in our businesses.

Ongoing Community Contribution Activities

Contributing to industrial development through innovation and returning profits to society are fundamental to the Group’s various social contribution activities aimed at forging relationships of trust with the community.
As one of our efforts to contribute to youth education, we have been working with the Kyoto Manufacturing Workshop courses promoted by the Kyoto City School Board since fiscal 2011.
Furthermore, the SCREEN Group supports the Science Inter-college Competition held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in which students of the natural sciences compete by presenting the results of their independent research. At the fifth annual Science Inter-college Competition, held March 3 and 4, 2018, the SCREEN Prize was awarded to a student research team from the Kochi University in Kochi for their presentation on the Mitochondrial probe with excellent two-photon absorption-Cell Electrocardiogram-.

●Volunteered in cultural and sport events at facilities for people with disabilities
●Donation and reconstruction assistance to the affected areas of the Kumamoto earthquake

●Donated children’s books, visited childcare facilities to present donations, provided support for subscriptions to newspapers for children
●Provided food for dialysis patients (prepared and served food)
●Made kimchi (support for low-income families in Jung District, Seoul)
●Supported a scholarship fund for low-income children (contributed the equivalent of 0.3% of all company employees’ salaries)

Public Policy and Relations with Administrative Institutions and Political Bodies

SCREEN Holding Co., Ltd. and major subsidiaries are members of the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) and other organizations that make policy recommendations to support the growth of the semiconductor production equipment, FPD production equipment, and printing equipment industries. We also participate in various organizations aimed at promoting corporate and industrial development in Kyoto, where our headquarters is located.
During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017, we received subsidies and other financial benefits from governments totaling ¥37 million.
